Hon. Dickson Dominic Tarkighir was born on April 12th, 1969 in Markurdi, Benue State, Nigeria to Mr. and Mrs. Tarkighir Ubur Adaga. He is a marketing consultant, politician and legislature currently representing Makurdi/Guma Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives.

Hon. Dickson began his primary education in 1976 at St. Thomas Primary School in Ibume, Markurdi and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1981. In 1986, he passed his Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) at Nongov Community Secondary School in Tse-Kyo, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. He graduated from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State in 2003 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. In the 2006/2007 academic session, he enrolled for a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) at the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State and graduated in 2008.
Hon. Dickson worked as a marketing consultant, integrated marketer, and business manager. He worked at Mojo Electronics in Umuahia, Abia State from 1988 to 1991. Thereafter he was an employee of Okada Air, Kaduna until 1995. He founded Dasnett Mobile Services and was later on Chief Executive Officer of Triggar and Gibbons Ltd.
After years of serving the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Dickson left the party in 2014 to contest the seat of Federal House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC). He won the election to represent Makurdi/Guma Constituency at the House. He however returned to the PDP in July 2018. In the House, he serves in various committees such as; ECOWAS Parliament, Petroleum Downstream, Appropriation, Defense, Population, Niger Delta Affairs, Navy, Inter Parliamentary, Health Services, and Integration in Africa. He has also carried out numerous successful projects at his Constituency. Some include;

In October 2018, Hon. Dickson Tarkighir, failed to secure the People's Democratic Party's ticket for Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency at the 2019 gneral elections. He lost out with 80 votes to 102 votes for Bem Mzondu who is seeking the position for the first time.
Hon. Dickson is married and has his family in Markurdi, Benue State.
