Hon. Onyereri attended College of the Immaculate Conception, Enugu and graduated in 1983 with a General Certificate of Education (GCE). He proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry/Microbiology in 1989. In 1998 he obtained a Post-graduate Diploma (PGD) in Marketing from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus. He also obtained a Master's degree in Marketing from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus in 2001.

He was re-elected in 2015 and currently serves as the Chairman of the Banking & Currency Committee. His legislative interest is to ensure law making for good governance.
