About Billiri Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Billiri local government area is found in Gombe state, Northeast Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are domiciled in the town of Billiri and the area comprises a number of towns and villages which include Gada Uku, Todi, Tanglang, Tudu, Ayaba, Tal, Banganje, Bacha, and Billiri. The traditional administrator of the Billiri LGA is the Mai Tangale while the Tangale ethnic sub-division while popular languages in the area include the Tangale dialect and the Hausa language. Islam is the widely practiced religion in Billiri with the area’s population estimated at 202,644 inhabitants. Popular festivals in Billiri local government area include the Pissi Tangale while the prominent landmarks in the area include the palace of the Mai Tangale, the Gombe state college of education, and the Dutsen Mamaki hills.


GEOGRAPHY OF BILLIRI

Billiri local government area covers a total area of 737 square kilometres and features two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average temperature of the area is 32 degrees centigrade while the wind speed of the area is put at 11 km/h.


ECONOMY OF BILLIRI

Billiri local government area is rich in mineral composition such as basalt, topaz, garnet, and calcite. Agriculture is also an important economic activity in Billiri LGA with the area known for the cultivation of crops such as sorghum, maize, beans, millet and groundnut. Trade is also an important enterprise in the area with the presence of several markets where an inexhaustible number of commodities are sold.
