Yalmaltu / Deba

Yamaltu Deba local government area is one of the eleven LGAs that make up Gombe state, North-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Deba and the LGA is bordered by parts of Borno and Yobe states. Towns and villages that make up Yamaltu/Deba LGA include Baltongo, Kunnuwal, Lambam, Saruje, Yamalta, Kulau, Kwadon, Jara, Pata, and Tudun wada. The estimated population of Yamaltu/Deba LGA is put at 186,732 inhabitants with the area occupied by members of diverse ethnic groups such as the Tera, kanuri, Jara, waja, and the Hausa/Fulani. Yamaltu/Deba LGA hosts the Deba Emirate and has a number of notable landmarks such as the Government Day Secondary School in Kurjale and the Model Primary School in Deba.

Yamaltu/Deba LGA occupies a total area of 1,981 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 31 degrees centigrade. The LGA hosts parts of the popular Lake Dadin Kowa and has the presence of the Kilang Hills and the Bima Rock.

ECONOMY OF YALMALTU / DEBA

Yamaltu/Deba LGA has a vibrant trade sector and hosts a number of markets such as the Kwodom market where a variety of items are bought and sold. Farming is also an important occupation of the dwellers of Yamaltu/ Deba LGA with crops such as rice, brown beans, millet, onions and sorghum grown in the area. Other enterprises that take place in Yamaltu/Deba LGA include animal rearing, leather works, fishing, and crafts making.
