Hon. (Engr.) Sani Bala Umar was born in 1970 in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Nigeria. He is an engineer, politician, and member representing Kunchi/Tsanyawa Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives.

Hon Umar attended Government Secondary School Karaye, Kano State where he sat for and passed the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) in 1988. He proceeded to the Bayero University Kano where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in engineering (1995) and an MBA (2006).
Hon Umar Bala worjed as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sahabi Electrical & Mechanical Co. Ltd. From October 2012 to 2014, he worked as Senior Manager of Operations and Maintenance at Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN). He was also a Business Manager with the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).'
In 2015 Hon Umar Bala was elected member representing Kunchi/Tsanyawa Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
