Anaocha

Anaocha local government area is found in Anambra state, Southeast Nigeria. The LGA comprises several towns and villages which include Adazi-enu, Adazi-nnukwu, Nri, Obeledu, Agulu, Neni, and Adazi-Ani. Anaocha LGA is home to members of the Igbo ethnic division and the Igbo and English languages are commonly spoken in the area.

Christianity and traditional religion are the widely practiced religions in the area. Important festivals held in Anaocha local government area include the Igu Aro festival in Nri, the New Yam festival, the Ufejioku Umueze festival, and the Mmanka festival. Popular landmarks in the area are the Nri Museum, and the Agulu Crocodile lake.

GEOGRAPHY OF ANAOCHA

Anaocha LGA has a humidity of 79 percent with average temperature estimated at 27.5 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two major seasons which are the dry season which lasts between the months of November and March and the rainy season which runs through April to October.

ECONOMY OF ANAOCHA

Anaocha LGA has a vibrant agricultural sector with crops such as cassava, yam, and cocoyam grown in substantial quantities. Wood processing is another important economic activity in Anaocha LGA. The people of the area also engage in fishing and commerce with popular markets such as the Afor market in Agulu and the Nkwor market in Adazi-enu  contributing to the economy of the LGA.

HISTORY OF ANAOCHA

It is widely believed that the Igbo tribe emerged from the town of Nri in present day Anaocha LGA  and the town is till this day viewed as the cradle of Igbo civilization.
