Sagamu

Sagamu local government area is situated in Ogun state, South-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Surulere, Ijagba, Ogijo, Samawa, Boyindo, Makun, Isole, and Ajaka. The LGA has an estimated population of 235,938 inhabitants with the area majorly occupied by members of the Yoruba ethnic groups. The Ijebu dialect of the Yoruba language is extensively spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are commonly practiced in the LGA. The Akarigbo of Sagamu is the paramount traditional ruler in the LGA while the notable landmarks in the area include the College of Medicine of the Olabisi Onabanjo University.

Sagamu LGA sits on a total area of 614 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The LGA lies off the banks of the Ibu River and has an average humidity level of 63 percent.

ECONOMY OF SAGAMU

Sagamu LGA has a rich agricultural heritage with the area known for the cultivation of a variety of crops such as cocoa and kolanut. The LGA also has a vibrant trade sector with the area hosting several markets such as the Sabo market where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. A number of mineral resources such as limestone are also found in Sagamu LGA. Other important economic activities undertaken by the people of Sagamu LGA include hunting, crafts making and fishing.
