Ishielu

Ishielu local government area is in Ebonyi state, South-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Ezillo with the LGA made up of a number of towns and villages such as Umuakpu, Amalaeze, Azunyaba, Onuoji, Nkalaha, Amaokwe, Nkalagu, Iyonu, and Ntezi. The estimated population of Ishielu LGA is put at 177,412 inhabitants with the area’s predominant dwellers being members of the Ezza sub-division of the Igbo ethnic group. The Ezza dialect of the Igbo language is commonly spoken in the area while Christianity is the most practiced religion in the LGA. A number of festivals area held in Ishielu LGA and these include the Oke aku and the New yam festivals. Notable landmarks in Ishielu LGA include the Nigerian Cement Company, Nkalagu.

ECONOMY OF ISHIELU

Farming is a major economic activity undertaken by the people of Ishielu LGA with a number of crops such as rice, yam, and cassava grown in the area. The area has a number of mineral deposits such as salt and limestone with Ishielu LGA being a hub for the industrial production of cement. Trade also flourishes in Ishielu LGA with the area playing host to several markets such as the Ezillo and the Nwafor Ehioji markets where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold.
