About Akoko North East Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Located in Ondo state, Southwest Nigeria, the Akoko northeast local government area has its headquarters in the town of Ikare. Popular towns in the area include Ikare, Ugbe, Arigidi, Iye, Irun, Ojeka, and Erusu. Akoko northeast is populated by about 203, 085 inhabitants with a vast majpority being members of the Yoruba ethnic group.

Christianity and Islam are popular religious affiliations in Akoko northeast while Yoruba and English are the commonly spoken languages. Popular festivals celebrated in Akoko northeast include the New yam, the Aringiya and the Agbogbo festivals. Landmarks in Akoko northeast include Federal Technical College Ikare and the Ondo state specialist hospital.

Akoko northeast LGA covers a total area of 372 km squared and has a humidity of 60 percent with average temperature estimated at 28 degrees centigrade.


ECONOMY OF AKOKO NORTH EAST

Agriculture is the major economic engagement of the dwellers of Akoko northeast with crops such as cocoa and yam grown in appreciable quantities. Other major economic activities in the area are pottery and trade with markets such as the Oja Oba, the Okore, and the Osele markets offering shoppers an endless list of commodities.
