Odigbo

Odigbo local government area is situated within Ondo state, South-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Ore and the LGA is made up of a number of towns and villages such as Abojupa, Ore, Alawaye, Araromi, Oniparaga, Awopeju, Atototan, and Kajola. The current estimated population of Odigbo LGA is put at 209,448 inhabitants with the area hosting members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is extensively spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are commonly practiced in the area. A number of important festivals are held in Odigbo LGA and these include the Ogun and Ore festivals.

GEOGRAPHY OF ODIGBO

Odigbo LGA covers a total area of 1,818 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the total precipitation in the LGA put at about 1900 mm of rainfall per annum.

ECONOMY OF ODIGBO

Odigbo LGA has a rich agricultural heritage and is known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as plantains and vegetables. The LGA also has a boisterous trade sector with the area hosting several markets such as the Ore regional market which attracts thousands of buyers and sellers. Other economic activities engaged in by the people of Odigbo LGA include textile weaving and dyeing, and crafts making.
