Bassa

Bassa local government area is in Kogi state which is situated in the Northcentral geopolitical division of Nigeria.  The headquarters of the area are in the town of Oguma and comprises several towns and villages which include Gbegberegi, Akabasisi, Dipengewu, Butu, Changudu, Paperi, Agodo, and Orekwe.. Bassa LGA is bordered by Rivers Niger and Benue, and Muri town. The popular tribes in Bassa local government area include the Bassa-komo, the Bassa-Nge, and the Egbira koto with the Bassa and Egbira dialects spoken extensively within the area. Islam and Christianity are both practiced in Bassa LGA while popular landmarks in the area include the Egeneja warm spring.

Bassa local government area covers a total area of 1,925 square kilometres and features two distinct seasons. The LGA consists of large areas of forests and has an average temperature of 30 degrees centigrade. The humidity level of Bassa LGA is put at 48 percent while wind speed averages 13 km/h.

ECONOMY OF BASSA

Farming is the major occupation of the inhabitants of Bassa LGA with a number of crops such as yam, maize, and cocoyam grown in the area. Other important economic activities in the area include fishing, mining, and blacksmithing.
