Mikang local government area is situated in Plateau state, North-central Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Tunkus. The LGA is made up of several towns and villages which include Koeneom, Paipung, Montol, Garkawa, Lahil, Swakan, Pangjiem, and Zomo. The current estimated population of Mikang LGA is put at 189,533 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Tehli and Youm ethnic affiliations. The Tehli and Youm languages are among the spoken languages in Mikang LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the area.
Mikang LGA covers a total area of 739 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 29 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons while the total precipitation in the LGA is put at an estimated 1450 mm of rainfall per annum.
Mikang LGA is home to a majorly agrarian populace and the area is known for the cultivation of a variety of crops such as onions, salads, potatoes and a variety of fruits. Animal rearing and sales are also very popular in the area while the LGA also hosts several markets where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold.
