Shendam

Shendam local government area is domiciled in Plateau state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Shendam and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Dungba, Garas, Tukum, Tumbi, Dakan Tofa, Derpeng, Dorok, and Makera. The estimated population of the LGA is put at 293,814 inhabitants with the LGA hosting members of the Goemai ethnic division. The Goemai language is commonly spoken in the Shendam LGA while the religions of Islam and Christianity are widely practiced in the area. A number of colourful festivals such as the Gamai cultural festival are held in Shendam LGA while the notable landmarks in the area include the Shendam Dam.

Shendam LGA occupies a total area of 2,477 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 26 degrees centigrade. The LGA hosts the Npol and Nroam lakes and has an average humidity level of 50 percent. Shendam LGA also hosts the popular Jelbang Rocks.

ECONOMY OF SHENDAM

A number of mineral resources such as gypsum and salt are found in Shendam LGA. Trade also flourishes in Shendam LGA with the area hosting several markets such as the Shendam main market which attracts several buyers and sellers of diverse commodities. Other important economic activities that take place in Shendam LGA include farming, animal rearing, and hunting.
