Shendam local government area is domiciled in Plateau state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Shendam and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Dungba, Garas, Tukum, Tumbi, Dakan Tofa, Derpeng, Dorok, and Makera. The estimated population of the LGA is put at 293,814 inhabitants with the LGA hosting members of the Goemai ethnic division. The Goemai language is commonly spoken in the Shendam LGA while the religions of Islam and Christianity are widely practiced in the area. A number of colourful festivals such as the Gamai cultural festival are held in Shendam LGA while the notable landmarks in the area include the Shendam Dam.
