Boki

Boki local government area is located in Cross River state, Southern Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Boje. Boki LGA shares borders with the Republic of Cameroon and the Ikom, obudu, and ogoja LGAs. Boki LGA has a population of about 143,980 inhabitants with the vast majority being members of theBoki ethnic sub-division. The Boki dialect is largely spoken in Boki LGA while Christianity is the widely practiced religion in the area. Boki LGA consists of several towns and villages which include Ntamante, Borum, Kakwagom-Irruan, Bunyia, Nkim Osokom, Boje, Dadi, Iman, and Okundi. Boki LGA is home to a number of important festivals which include the New Yam, the Alobe, and the Etcen festivals while interesting landmarks in the LGA include the Afi Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary and the Borum Oil palm estate.

GEOGRAPHY OF BOKI

Boki LGA falls within the rainforest zone and covers a total area of 2771 square kilometres. The area features two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the rainy seasons characterized by consistent and heavy rainfall. The landscape of Boki LGA features the Afi mountain range while the area has a humidity level of 92 percent.

ECONOMY OF BOKI

Agriculture is an important economic activity in Boki LGA with the area producing crops such as Oil palm, plantains, and sugarcane in substantially large quantities. Also, oil mining in and around Boki LGA contributes immensely to the economy of the area. Other important economic enterprises in the area include fishing, net weaving and canoe making.
