Obudu

Obudu local government area is situated in Cross River state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Bette. Obudu LGA shares boundaries with the Boki and Bekwarra LGAs and with parts of Benue state and the Republic of Cameroon. Towns and villages that make up Obudu LGA include Bette, Okpe, Alege, Becheve, Unpe, Utanga, Ugang, and Utugwang. The estimated population of Obudu LGA is put at 174,700 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Bette ethnic group. The Bette language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the area. Popular landmarks in Obudu LGA include the Obudu cattle Ranch and Mountain Resort and the Obudu Dam while the popular Events in the LGA include the Obudu international Mountain Race. Prominent traditional rulers in Obudu LGA include the Uti Ukani of Obudu.

Obudu LGA has an average temperature of 24 degrees centigrade and the LGA hosts several mountains and hills. Obudu LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the average humidity level in the area put at 71 percent. There are also a number of rivers and streams that flow through Obudu LGA.

Tourism is a critical aspect of the economy of Obudu LGA with the Obudu cattle ranch and resort as wells as the Obudu international mountain race attracting thousands of tourists. The LGA also has a rich fishing culture with the area’s rivers being endowed with seafood. Trade, lumbering and farming also flourish within the LGA.
