Omala

Omala local government area is in Kogi state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Abejukolo. Towns and villages that make up Omala LGA include Ogodu, Abejukolo, Ife, Ogugudu, Oti, Oliya, Ijali, and Akpacha. The estimated population of Omala LGA is put at 269,213 inhabitants with the area’s predominant dwellers being members of the Igala ethnic group. The Igala language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are widely practiced in the area.

Omala LGA covers a total area of 1667 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The LGA lies close to the Benue River and has an average humidity level of 62 percent. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the average wind speed in the area put at 11km/h.

ECONOMY OF OMALA

A number of mineral deposits are found in Omala LGA and these include clay and granite. The LGA also hosts a number of markets where a plethora of commodities are bought and sold. Farming also thrives in the LGA with the area having fertile lands on which a number of crops such as yam, cassava, and maize are cultivated.
