About Toungo Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Toungo local government area is situated in Adamawa state, North-east geopolitical division of Nigeria. The LGA comprises of several towns and villages which include Dalsum, Dameji, Nuibago, Galabje, Kiri, Gamu, Dawo, Dananji, Timdoga, and Dichire. The estimated population of Toungo LGA is put at 180,911 inhabitants with the area primarily occupied by members of the Chamba, Hausa and the Fulani ethnic groups. The Chamba language is one of the spoken languages in Toungo LGA with the religions of Christianity and Islam extensively practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Toungo LGA include the Gbuni Cave and the Gashaka Gumti Natural Park.


GEOGRAPHY OF TOUNGO

Toungo LGA is heavily forested and has an average temperature of 30 degrees centigrade. The LGA has an average humidity level of 29 percent with the average wind speed in the area put at 11 km/h. A few hills and small mountains can also be found in Toungo LGA.


ECONOMY OF TOUNGO

Trade is an important economic enterprise in Toungo LGA with the area hosting several markets such as the Toungo main market which attracts a multitude of sellers and buyers of different commodities. Toungo LGA is also a hub for the production of honey with the honey business booming in the area. Other important economic activities engaged in by the people of Toungo LGA include lumbering, hunting, and wood carving.
