About Misau Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Misau local government area is domiciled in Bauchi state, North-east Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Misau. Misau LGA is home to the Misau Emirate and is made up of a number of towns and villages such as Gilliri, Firko, Kafin Sule, Misau, and Yana. The estimated population of Misau LGA is put at 212,790 inhabitants with the area mainly inhabited by members of the Hausa ethnic group. The Hausa language is commonly spoken in Misau LGA while the religions of Islam and Christianity are practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Misau LGA include the Alhapri Farm Institute and the A.D Rufai College for Legal and Islamic studies.


GEOGRAPHY OF MISAU

Misau LGA occupies a total area of 1226 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 32 degrees centigrade. The LGA has the Misau River flowing through its territory with the average humidity level in the area pegged at 29 percent.


ECONOMY OF MISAU

Agriculture is the main source of livelihood for the people of Misau LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as millet, cotton, cowpea, sorghum, and groundnut. A number of domestic animals such as rams, cows, goats and horses are reared and sold in Misau LGA. Other important economic activities undertaken by the people of Misau LGA include cotton weaving and dyeing, trade, and craftsmanship.
