Birniwa local government area is found in Jigawa state which is situated within the Northwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Birnawa. Popular towns and villages that make up Birniwa LGA include Unguwa, Kishinde, Kachliari, Batu, Dole, Kukawa, Mungurum, and Dingisa. The population of Birnwa LGA is estimated at 142,692 inhabitants with the majority tribes being the Hausa and Fulani. The Hausa and Fufulde languages are spoken extensively in the area while Islam is the widely practiced religion in the area with over 95 percent of the area’s population as registered Muslims.
The total area covered by the Birniwa LGA is 1,567 square kilometres with the area experiencing two major seasons; the rainy and the dry seasons. The average temperature of the area is put at 33 degrees centigrade while humidity levels are at 13 percent.
Birniwa LGA is home to a majority of subsistence farmers who grow crops such as millet, rice and groundnuts. Trade is also an important economic feature of the LGA with the area hosting several markets such as the Kussa market where buyers and sellers meet to exchange a variety of goods and services.
