Kaugama local government area is situated in Jigawa state, Northwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Kaugama with the LGA consisting of several towns and villages such as Dakayawa, Hadin, Yalo, Kaugama, Marki, Dabora, Jarkasa, and Garin Gabas. The estimated population of Kaugama LGA is put at 174,563 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Hausa and the Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa language is spoken in Kaugama LGA while Islam is the widely practiced religion in the area. Kaugama LGA is also a part of the prestigious Hadejia Emirate.
Kaugama LGA covers a total area of 883 square kilometres and witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average humidity level of the LGA is put at 29 percent while the average wind speed is 10 km/h.
