Yankwashi

Yankwashi local government area is found in Jigawa state, North-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of karkarna and the LGA comprises of several towns and villages which include Belas, Dandi, Ringim, Zungumba, Rauda, Daba, Badaza, Gezoj, and Achilafia. The estimated population of Yankwashi LGA is put at 164,094 inhabitants with the area predominantly occupied by members of the Hausa/Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa language is commonly spoken in Yankwashi LGA while the religion of Islam is predominantly practiced in the area. Yankwashi LGA is part of the renowned Kazaure Emirate and has a number of notable landmarks such as the Government Science and Technical College in Karkana and the Government Day Secondary School in Afirji.

Yankwashi LGA covers a total area of 371 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the dry seasons in the area lasting for longer periods in a calendar year.

ECONOMY OF YANKWASHI

Farming is an important economic engagement of the people of Yankwashi LGA with a variety of crops such as rice and tomatoes grown in the area. A number of domestic animals such as camels, rams, and goats are also reared and sold in the LGA. Other economic activities undertaken by the people of Yankwashi LGA include trade, pottery, and hunting.
