Igabi

Igabi local government area is in Kaduna state, Northwest geopolitical region of Nigeria. The headquarters of the area are in the town of Turunku with a number of towns such as Jaji, Kabubuwa, Girku, Amaza, Rihogi, Wasana, Kudandan, Rigachukun, and Rigasa making up the LGA. The estimated population of Igabi LGA is 189,055 inhabitants with the most populous tribes in the area being the Hausa, Fulani, and Gwari. The Hausa language is widely spoken in the area while the most practiced religions in the area are the Christian and Islamic religions. Notable landmarks in Igabi LGA include the Turunku hills.

Igabi LGA has an average temperature of 32 degrees centigrade with the humidity levels in the area put at an average of 48 percent. The LGA witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the area’s average wind speed pegged at 11 km/h.

ECONOMY OF IGABI

Agriculture is the major occupation of the people of Igabi LGA with crops such as yams, sugarcane, guineacorn, beans, and maize grown in substantially large quantities within the area. Also, animals such as cows, horses, and rams are reared in the area. Trade also blossoms in Igabi LGA with the area hosting several markets such as the Rigasa district and the Gadangaya markets. Other important economic activities in Igabi LGA include hunting and blacksmithing.

Igabi LGA was carved out of the Zaria LGA in the year 1989.
