Jaba

Jaba local government area is domiciled in Kaduna state, Northwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Kwoi. The towns and villages that make up Jaba LGA include Ankung, Kwoi, New Nok, Duyyah, Fai, and Sambam. The estimated population of Jaba LGA is 202,346 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of theHam ethnic sub-division. The Hyam langage is predominantly spoken in the area while the religions of Christianity and Islam are widely practiced in the LGA. Indigenous festivals held in Jaba LGA include the Tuk-Ham festival while notable landmarks in the area include the ECWA Pastors Training College, Kwoi.

Jaba local government area occupies a total area of 368 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 32 degrees centigrade. The average humidity level of the LGA is put at 34 percent while average wind speed in the area is 10 km/h.

ECONOMY OF JABA

Jaba has a distinctive agricultural reputation of being one of the highest ginger producing areas in the world with the sale and export of the crop adding immensely to the economy of the area. The LGA is also known for the rearing and sale of a number of domestic animals such as rams, goats, camels, and donkeys. Other important economic activities undertaken by the people of Jaba LGA include hunting and trade.

The first major Nok terracotta head was discovered in the area now known as Jaba LGA.
