Karu local government area is in Nasarawa state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of New Karu. Karu LGA is bordered by the Keffi LGA and by parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Kaduna state. Towns and villages that make up Karu LGA include Gidan Mangoro, Gitata, Karshi, Karu, Uke, Achak, Jemage, and Kukuri. The estimated population of Karu LGA is put at 103,748 inhabitants with the area hosting a number of traditional rulers which include the Etsu Karu.
