Kokona

Kokona local government area is situated in Nasarawa state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The LGA is made up of a number of towns and villages such as Garaku, Akware, Doma, Bazariye, Gungu, Endo, Kandare, and Shabu. The estimated population of Kokona LGA is put at 183,776 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Mada tribal affiliation. The Mada language is commonly spoken in Kokona LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the area. Kokona LGA has a number of prominent traditional rulers which include the Abaga toni of Toni Kingdom.

Kokona LGA sits on a total area of 1,844 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 29 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average wind speed in Kokona LGA is put at 10 km/h while estimated total annual precipitation in the LGA is put at 1450 mm of rainfall per annum.

ECONOMY OF KOKONA

Farming is an important economic activity undertaken by dwellers of Kokona LGA with a number of crops such as yams and potatoes grown in the area. Trade also blossoms in Kokona LGA with the area hosting a number of markets which include the Tudun Mangoro market. Other important economic activities undertaken by the residents of Kokona LGA include the traditional manufacturing of soap and the production and sale of charcoal.
