About Keana Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Keana local government area is domiciled in Nasarawa state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Keana. The LGA is made up of several towns and villages which include Kadarko, Aloshi, Giza, Keana, Agazi, Omogade, Gaskawa, and Akuna. The estimated population of Keana LGA is 109,838 inhabitants with the area’s population primarily made up of members of the Alago tribe. The Alago language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Islam and Christianity are widely practiced in the area. A number of festivals are held in Keana LGA and these include the Oyoorekeana festival while prominent traditional rulers in the area include the Osana of Keana.


GEOGRAPHY OF KEANA

Keana LGA covers a total area of 1,048 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 30 degrees centigrade. The LGA hosts the salt-rich Keana Lake with the average humidity level of the area put at 38 percent. Keana LGA has two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons.


ECONOMY OF KEANA

Salt is a major mineral resource found in Keana LGA with the Keana Lake beng rich in the mineral. Farming is also a key feature of the LGA’s economy with crops such as yams, salads, and potatoes grown in substantially large quantities in the area. Trade also flourishes in Keana LGA with the area hosting a number of markets where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold.
