Omuma local government area is found in Rivers state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria with headquarters in the town of Eberi. The LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Umuabali, Umuroke, Eberi, Egbelu, Umuokwa, Umuoyoro, and Umudik. The estimated population of Omuma LGA is put at 171,832 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Etche ethnic division. The Etche language which is closely related to the Igbo language is extensively spoken in the area. A number of festivals such as the Ogwu Ekpeye festival are held in Omuma LGA while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the LGA.
Omuma LGA occupies a total area of 170 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 25 degrees centigrade. The LGA hosts a number of rivers and tributaries with the average humidity level in the LGA put at 78 percent.
Omuma LGA has a vibrant trade sector and hosts a number of markets such as the Eketa market where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold. The LGA is also an agricultural hub with crops such as yam, maize, oil palm, and vegetables grown in the LGA. Other important economic activities engaged in by people of Omuma LGA include fishing, crafts making, lumbering, and hunting.
