Maru

Maru local government area is domiciled in Zamfara state, North-west Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Maru. Maru LGA is made up of several towns and villages which include Yar Galadima, Dansadu, Matankan, Dangulbi, Lingyado,Tungar Baush, Bindin, and Gidan Ardo. The estimated population of Maru LGA is put at 269,081 inhabitants with the area mostly populated by members of the Hausa and Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa language is widely spoken in Maru LGA while Islam is the most practiced religion in the area.

GEOGRAPHY OF MARU

Maru LGA sits on a total area of 6,654 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The area falls under the sahel savannah and has an average humidity level of 18 percent. Maru LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the area’s landscape characterized by long stretches of dry and arid land.

ECONOMY OF MARU

A number of mineral deposits are found in Maru LGA and these include Gold and limestone with the area widely known as a hub for the mining of these minerals. Other important economic activities undertaken by members of the Maru LGA include farming, cattle rearing, and trade.
