Owerri urban local government area is one of the twenty seven LGAs found in Imo state, South-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Owerri with the area hosting several districts which include Tetlow road, Wetheral road, Assumpta Avenue, Douglas road, and Orlu road. The Owerri urban LGA has an estimated population of 288,492 inhabitants with the LGA primarily populated by members of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is extensively practiced in the LGA. Notable landmarks in the LGA include the Dan Anyiam Sports stadium and the Maria Assumpta Cathedral while the paramount traditional ruler in the LGA is the Eze of Owerri.
