Vandeikya local government area is in Benue state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Vandeikya. The LGA is bordered by the Ushongo and the Konshisha LGAs and by parts of Cross River state. Towns and villages that make up Vandeikya LGA include Mbaduku, Ute, Tsambe, Mingev, Mbara, Mbagbera, Mbayongo, and Mbaka-Ange. The estimated population of Vandeikya LGA is put at 183,200 inhabitants with the area majorly occupied by members of the Tiv ethnic group. The Tiv language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the area.
Vandeikya LGA covers a total area of 183 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 29 degrees centigrade. The LGA has an estimated elevation of 512 feet above sea level with the area hosting a number of rivers such as the Aya and Be Rivers.
Farming is the major occupation of the people of Vandeikya LGA with the area known for the large scale cultivation of crops such as sweet potato, pepper, bambara nuts, citrus fruits, rice, and cassava. A number of mineral resources such as Barite, kaolin, and Iron ore are also found in the LGA. Other important economic activities that take place in Vandeikya LGA include trade, food processing, and hunting.
Vandeikya LGA was created in the year 1976 from the Gboko local government council.
