About Ekiti South West Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ekiti Southwest local government area is domiciled in Ekiti state, Southwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Ilawe-Ekiti. The towns and villages that make up Ekiti Southwest LGA include Igbara-odo Ekiti, Ogotun Ekiti and Ilawe Ekiti. The estimated population of Ekiti Southwest LGA is 129, 488 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is commonly spoken in Ekiti Southwest LGA while Christianity is the widely practiced religion in the area.


GEOGRAPHY OF EKITI SOUTH WEST

Ekiti Southwest LGA covers a total area of 346 square kilometres and falls under the tropical zone. The area witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons while the the average temperature of the LGA is 28 degrees centigrade. The average wind speed in Ekiti Southwest LGA is 12 km/h.


ECONOMY OF EKITI SOUTH WEST

Farming is a key economic engagement in Ekiti Southwest LGA with crops such as banana and plantain grown in the area. The area also has a booming trade sector and is home to several markets such as the Obada market where dwellers of the LGA buy and sell a variety of commodities.

HISTORY OF EKITI SOUTH WEST

Ekiti Souhwest LGA was created in the year 1976.
