Ikole

Ikole local government area is in Ekiti state, Southwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Ikole. The LGA is made up of a number of towns and villages such as Ikole, Ijesha, Iyemero, Temidire, Ikunri, Ijebu-Agege, Ilamo, Ayebode, and Ikosi. The estimated population of Ikole LGA is put at 104,373 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is widely spoken in the area while Christanity and Islam are the extensively practiced religions in the LGA. The Elekole of Ikole is the paramount traditional ruler in the area while the Utaale festival is one of the many colourful festivals held in the LGA. Notable landmarks in Ikole LGA include the Itapaji dam, the Oke Ako cattle ranch, and the Federal Government College in Ikole.

Ikole LGA covers a total area of 321 square kilometres and has the Oye and Ele Rivers flowing through its territory. The average temperature of the area is 27 degrees centigrade while the total precipitation level of the area is put at 1850 mm of rainfall per annum.

ECONOMY OF IKOLE

Lumbering and woodwork are important economic activities of the people of Ikole LGA owing to the vast forest reserves of the area. Also, farming is widely engaged in by the dwellers of Ikole LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a number of crops. The LGA also has a number of important markets such as the Ikole main market where a large number of commodities are bought and sold.
