About Ijero Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ijero local government area is in Ekiti state, Southwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Ijero ekiti. Ijero LGA is bordered by Moba, Ido osi, Irepodun/Ifelodun, and Ekiti west local government areas and by parts of Osun state. A number of towns make up Ijero LGA and these include Abatuntun, Odo owo, Ipoti ekiti, Ayegunle ekiti, Ikoro, Saloro, Odo ikoro, and Okelogbo. The estimated population of Ijero LGA is 165,099 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being from the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is widely spoken in the area while Christianity and Islam are the commonly practiced religions in the LGA. The traditional administrator of Ijero LGA is the Ajero of Ijero kingdom. Popular festivals held in Ijero LGA include the Ijero cultural festival while notable landmarks in the area include the Government Technical College and the Ekiti state Cooperative College.


GEOGRAPHY OF IJERO

Ijero LGA stands at an elevation of 1332 meters above sea level. The area witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average humidity level of the area is 65 percent with the average temperature of the area put at 27 degrees centigrade.


ECONOMY OF IJERO

Ijero LGA has a number of mineral deposits such as colombat, crystal stone, and vesper. The LGA also has a rich agricultural heritage with the area known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as yam, cocoyam, cassava, pepper, tomatoes, and banana. Ijero LGA also hosts a number of markets where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold.

Ijero LGA was created in the year 1976.
