Moba

Moba local government area is situated within Ekiti state, south-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Otun. The towns and villages that make up Moba LGA include Otun Ekiti, Igogo Ekiti, Osan Ekiti, Iro Ekiti, Irare Ekiti, Isaoye Ekiti, Ikosu Ekiti, and Epe Ekiti. The estimated population of Moba LGA is put at 149,513 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is widely spoken in Moba LGA while the religions of Islam and Christanity are practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Moba LGA include the Ero Dam, and the Oore Ancient Palace.

Moba LGA occupies a total area of 199 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The LGA hosts a number of hills such as the Egi hills with average humidity levels in the area placed at 58 percent. Moba LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons.

ECONOMY OF MOBA

Moba LGA has a rich agricultural heritage and is popular for the cultivation of a number of crops such as kolanuts and pepper. The area also has a vibrant trade sector with the LGA hosting markets such as the Otun modern market where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic enterprises undertaken by the people of Moba LGA include textile weaving and dyeing, crafts making and welding.
