Itesiwaju

Itesiwaju local government area is in Oyo state, south-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Otu. The LGA is bordered by the Iwawoja, Iseyin, Atisbo,and Kajola LGAs. Towns and villages that make up Itesiwaju LGA include Ipapo owode, Otu, Igbojaye, Baba-ode, oke Amu, Komu, Ajebandele, Mokolade, and Alaga. The estimated population of Itesiwaju LGA is put at 163,708 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is extensively spoken in itesiwaju LGA with Christianity and Islam as the most practiced religions in the area. A number of festivals such as the Ileya festival are held in Itesiwaju LGA.

The average humidity level of Itesiwaju LGA is 61 percent while average wind speed in the LGA is 10 km/h. Itesiwaju LGA lies within the Savanah belt and witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons.

Farming is a key economic activity in Itesiwaju LGA with crops such as Yam,maize, cassava, cocoa, tobacco, and citrus cultivated within the area. Trade also blossoms in Itesiwaju LGA with the area hosting a number of markets such as the Oke amu main market where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic enterprises engaged in by dwellers of Itesiwaju LGA include preparation and sale of roots and herbs and lumbering.

HISTORY OF ITESIWAJU

Itesiwaju LGA was created on the 4th of December 1996 from the Iseyin LGA.
