Etim Ekpo

Etim Ekpo local government area is situated in Akwa Ibom state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria. A number of towns and villages make up Etim Ekpo LGA and these include Ikot Ikpa, Ntak Inyang, Ikot Inyang, Uruk Ata Nsidung, Ete Edet, Atan, Ikot Obio Nta, Ikono, and Obong. The estimated population of Etim Ekpo LGA is 84,203 inhabitants with the most prominent tribe in the area being the Annang. The Annang language is widely spoken in the area while the majority of the area’s inhabitants are Christians. There are a number of colourful festivals held in Etim Ekpo LGA and these include the Ekpo festival and the Kpi Ekpo festival.

ECONOMY OF ETIM EKPO

Etim Ekpo LGA has substantially large amounts of crude oil and natural gas deposits. Fishing is also an important economic activity in the area with the several rivers and tributaries in the areas being rich in seafood. Other important occupations of the people of Etim Ekpo LGA include canoe making, farming, and trade.
