Obot Akara

Obot Akara local government area is found in Akwa Ibom state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The LGA shares boundaries with the Essien Udim, Ikono, Ini, and ikot ekpene LGAs and with parts of Abia state. Towns and villages that make up Obot Akara LGA include Abiakpo, Ikot Abia, Itu Edino, Usaka, Nto Esu, Imana, Ibiakpan, and Ikot Utu. The estimated population of Obot Akara LGA is put at 119,703 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Annang ethnic group. The Annang language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the area.

Obot Akara LGA has an average temperature of 25 degrees centigrade and hosts several rivers and tributaries. The average humidity level in the area is estimated at 74 percent with the average wind speed in the area put at 11 km/h.

ECONOMY OF OBOT AKARA

A number of mineral deposits are found in Obot Akara LGA and these include crude oil and natural gas. The LGA is also home to fertile swaths of land which are used in the cultivation of a number of crops such as oil palm, yam, cassava, and cocoyam. Trade also blossoms in the area with the LGA hosting several markets which attract hundreds of buyers and sellers.
