Nsit Ibom

Nsit Ibom local government area is in Akwa Ibom state, South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Afaha Offiong and the LGA shares borders with the Ibesikpo Asutan, Etinan, Uyo, and Nsit Ubium LGAs. The towns and villages that make up Nsit Ibom LGA include Afaha Offiong, Obo Ntong, Okukok, Oboetim Ikot Ekong, Edeobom, Obio Okpok, and Asang. The estimated population of Nsit Ibom LGA is put at 115,893 inhabitants with the area mostly populated by members of the Ibibio ethnic affiliation. The Ibibio language is commonly spoken in the area while the religion of Christianity is extensively practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Nsit Ibom LGA include the Nsit Ibom mini Sports stadium.

Nsit Ibom LGA has a number of rivers and streams flowing through the area with the average temperature of the area put at an estimated 25 degrees centigrade. The average humidity level in the LGA is pegged at 82 percent while total precipitation in the area is at an estimated 3200 mm of rainfall per annum.

ECONOMY OF NSIT IBOM

Farming is a key economic activity in Nsit Ibom LGA with crops such as Oil palm, Cassava, yam, and cocoyam grown in the area. The area is also a hub for fishing with the LGA’s rivers and streams being rich in seafood. Other important enterprises undertaken by the people of Nsit Ibom LGA include Trade and the making of canoes and fishing nets.
