Askira / Uba

Askira Uba local government area is in Borno state, Northeast Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Askira. The major tribes in Askira Uba are the Chibok and the Marghi with the area consisting several towns and villages such as Lassa, Uru, Mussa, Uba, Askira, Wamdeo, and Husara. Askari Uba LGA has two Emirates which are the Uba and Askira Emirates. Islam is the major religious affiliation of the dwellers of Askira Uba LGA while the Hausa language is commonly spoken in the area.

Askira Uba LGA covers a total area of 2,362 square kilometres and features two distinct seasons which are the rainy and dry seasons with the latter lasting for longer periods of the calendar year and featuring extremely hot temperatures. The area falls under the semi-arid climate and features vast expanses of dry, arid land. The average temperature of Askira Uba is 37 degrees centigrade with humidity of the area pegged at 18 percent.

The people of Askira Uba LGA are mostly subsistence farmers with crops such as groundnut, rice and millet grown in the area. Cattle rearing and hunting are also key economic activities of the area. Commerce is also an important feature of Askira Uba with markets such as the Rumirgo market Askira and the Mussa Central market attracting hundreds of buyers and sellers.
