Monguno

Monguno local government area is situated in Borno state, North-east Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Monguno. Monguno LGA is a part of the great Borno Emirate and is made up of a number of towns and villages such as Musari, Zulum, Kabulawa, Mongal, Dedeta, Asadu, Wulo, and Kaganam. The estimated population of Monguno LGA is put at 210,555 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Kanuri ethnic group. The Kanuri language is commonly spoken in the area while the religions of Islam and Christianity are practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Monguno include the Monguno military Barracks.

Trade is a critical aspect of the economy of Monguno LGA with the LGA hosting several markets which include the Bida Market where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold. Farming is also an important feature in the economy of Monguno LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a variety of crops such as peanuts, sugarcane, rice, and sorghum. Other important economic activities undertaken by the people of Monguno LGA include pottery, hunting, blacksmithing, and the rearing of a variety of domestic animals.
