Shani

Shani local government area is found in Borno state, North-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Shani with the LGA comprising of several towns and villages such as Shani, Kubo, Lakundum, Kombo, Dumbuku, Bargu, Kabara, and Gwaskara. The LGA has an estimated population of 245,358 inhabitants with the LGA mostly inhabited by members of the Babur Bura and Kanakuru ethnic groups. Shani LGA is a part of the Shani Emirate and notable landmarks in the area include the Fire Brigade Office and the Palace of the Emir.

Shani LGA sits on a total area of 1,262 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 33 degrees centigrade. The LGA experiences two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with vast areas of the LGA made up of dry and arid flat lands.

ECONOMY OF SHANI

Shani LGA is home to a boisterous animal rearing sector with the area known for the keeping and sales of domestic animals such as cows and donkeys. The LGA also hosts a vibrant trade sector and has several markets within its territory which provide platforms for the exchange of a variety of goods and services. Other important economic activities that take place in Shani LGA include hunting, pottery, and blacksmithing.
