Gbako

Gbako local government area is one of the twenty five local government areas in Niger state, Northcentral Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Lemu while towns and villages that make up the LGA include Shabafu, Nimadu, Kpafu, Gorogban, Ekpangi, Dingi, Akote, and Sheshiko. The estimated population of Gbako LGA is 131,225 inhabitants with the area consisting of members of the Nupe, Gbagyi and Hausa tribal affiliations. Hausa is one of the languages spoken in Gbako LGA while Islam and Christianity are widely practiced in the area.  A number of festivals are held in Gbako LGA and these include the colourful Ebiko Fishing festival.

GEOGRAPHY OF GBAKO

Gbako LGA occupies a total area of 1,735 square kilometres and lies off the Kaduna river. The average temperature of Gbako LGA is 32 degrees centigrade while the humidity level of the area is at an average of 32 percent.

ECONOMY OF GBAKO

Farming is a key economic activity in Gbako LGA with a variety of crops grown in the area. The LGA also hosts a number of markets where a plethora of commodities are bought and sold. Other important enterprises undertaken by the residents of Gbako LGA are fishing, hunting, textile weaving, pottery, and weaving of mats and baskets.
