Shiroro

Shiroro local government area is domiciled in Niger state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Kuta and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Kuta, Galkogo, Sunnayu, Jangara, Akwaki, Nugbai, Kulumi, Amuku, and Daboye. The estimated population of Shiroro LGA is put at 304,512 inhabitants with the area predominantly occupied by members of diverse ethnic groups such as the Nupe, Gbagyi, Kadara, and koro. The Nupe and Gbagyi languages are spoken in Shiroro while the religions of Christianity and Islam are commonly practiced in the area. Prominent festivals held in Shiroro LGA include the Abwagyi dance festival while notable landmarks in the area include the Shiroro dam and the Shiroro hydro power station.

Trade is an important economic activity in Shiroro LGA with the area hosting a number of markets such as the very popular Kwata fish market which attracts thousands of buyers and sellers. Farming is also key to the economy of Shiroro LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a wide variety of crops. Other important economic enterprises engaged in by the people of Shiroro LGA include fishing, animal rearing, and hunting.
