Mariga

Mariga local government area is in Niger state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Bangi. The towns and villages that make up Mariga LGA include Kumbashi, Koton kobo, Yadi, Tunku, Matari, Iraba, Mabinni, and Afaga. The estimated population of Mariga LGA is put at 239,518 inhabitants with the most populous tribe in the area being the Kamuku ethnic group. The Kamuku language is widely spoken in the area while the religions of Islam and Christianity are practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Mariga LGA include the Zuguma Games Reserve.

Mariga LGA occupies a total area of 5,552 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 30 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons while the average wind speed in the area is estimated at 10 km/h.

ECONOMY OF MARIGA

Farming is a major economic activity in Mariga LGA with crops such as maize, groundnut, and guineacorn grown in substantially large quantities within the area. Trade also booms in the LGA with the area hosting several markets which include the Beri market where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities in Mariga LGA include cattle rearing, hunting, and wood work.
