Gurara

Gurara local government area is in Niger state, Northcentral Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Gawu. The LGA comprises of several towns and villages which include Mararaba, Tuchi, Nasami, Kabo, Gwachige, Kungo, Guna, and Tufu. The estimated population of the Gurara LGA is 145,660 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Gwari tribe. The Gwari language is extensively spoken in the area while Christianity and Islam are the commonly practiced religions in the LGA. A number of festivals are held in Gurara LGA and these include the Gurara cultural festival.  Notable landmarks in Gurara local government area include the very popular Gurara waterfalls and the Gurara Dam.

Gurara LGA covers a total area of 954 square kilometres and has the popular Gurara river flowing through its territory. The average temperature of Gurara LGA is 29 degrees centigrade while the average humidity level in the area is 41 percent.

ECONOMY OF GURARA

Gurara LGA hosts several markets such as the Izon Animal Market; these markets provide the platforms for the dwellers of Gurara LGA to exchange a variety of goods and services. Farming is also a critical economic activity in Gurara LGA with a number of crops such as yam, salads, potatoes and groundnuts grown in the area. Animals such as cattle and rams are also reared in the area. Other important economic activities in Gurara LGA include pottery, hunting, and blacksmithing.
