Paikoro local government area is found in Niger state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Paiko. The LGA is made up of towns and villages such as Kafinkoro, Paiko, Baani, Chimbi, Kakuri, Pinai, Shaudna, Gwato, and Feri. The estimated population of Paikoro LGA is put at 289,551 inhabitants with the area’s predominant inhabitants being members of the Nupe and Adara ethnic groups. The Nupe language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and and Islam are extensively practiced in the LGA.
Paikoro LGA occupies a total area of 2,066 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 30 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two major seasons which are the rainy and the dry seasons with the former usually coming between the months of April-August while the latter is experienced between the months of September and March.
Paikoro LGA has a rich trade sector with the area hosting several markets such as the Paikoro international yam market and the Tungan Malam Cattle market. The LGA is also a hub for agriculture with crops such as yam, cassava, millet, sorghum, and guinea corn grown in substantial quantities within the area. Other important economic activities in Paikoro LGA include hunting, animal rearing and food processing.
