Mashegu

Mashegu local government area is in Niger state, North-central Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Mashegu. The LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Nagogo, Kawo, Soba, Zugurma, Wadata, Pate, Sassa, Konwan, and Adabo. Mashegu LGA is a part of the prestigious Kontagora Emirate and has an estimated population of 189,329 inhabitants with the area hosting members of diverse ethnic affiliations such as the Nupe, Hausa, and Dakarkari. The Hausa language is spoken in Mashegu LGA while the religions of Islam and Christianity are practiced in the area.

Mashegu LGA covers a total area of 9,182 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 29 degrees centigrade. The area lies off the shores of the Kaduna and Niger Rivers and witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and rainy seasons.

ECONOMY OF MASHEGU

Farming is a critical part of the economy of Mashegu LGA with the area known for the massive cultivation of a number of crops such as cowpea and millet. The area is also known for its viable trade sector with the LGA hosting several markets where a plethora of commodities are bought and sold. Other important occupations of the people of Masghegu LGA include hunting and leatherworks.
