About Karim Lamido Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Karim Lamido local government area is situated in Taraba state, North-cerntral geopolitical enclave of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Karim Lamido with the LGA made up of several towns and villages such as the Wurkum, Hakuri, Darofari, Murbai, Pitiko, Senge, Muri, and Zailani. The estimated population of Karim Lamido LGA is put at 161,772 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Jenjo ethnic group. The Jenjo language is widely spoken in the LGA with the religions of Christianity and Islam spoken in the area. A number of colourful festivals are held in Karim Lamido LGA and these include the Pephe festival.


GEOGRAPHY OF KARIM LAMIDO

Karim Lamido LGA occupies a total area of 6,620 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 29 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. Karim Lamido LGA also hosts a number of tributaries which feed the Benue River which flows across the fringes of the LGA.


ECONOMY OF KARIM LAMIDO

Agriculture is the major occupation of the people of Karim Lamido LGA with crops such as rice and yam grown in substantially large quantities within the area. Trade also booms in Karim Lamido LGA with the area hosting a number of Markets which provide platforms for the dwellers of the area to exchange a variety of goods and services. Other popular enterprises engaged in by the people of Karim Lamido LGA include hunting and crafts making.
