Wukari

Wukari local government area is situated in Taraba state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Wukari and the LGA shares boundaries with parts of Nasarawa state. Towns and villages that make up Wukari LGA include Wukari, Auyi, Rafin Kada, Chonku, Gidan Idi, Arufu, Bantaje, and kuyu. The estimated population of Wukari LGA is put at 269,031 inhabitants with the area majorly inhabited by members of the Jukun ethnic affiliation. The Jukun language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the area. Festivals held in Wukari LGA include the Puje and the Jukun cultural festivals while notable landmarks in the area include the Wukari Games Reserve and the Federal University, Wukari.

Wukari LGA occupies a total area of 4308 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 30 degrees centigrade. The LGA has a number of Rivers such as the Benue and Donga Rivers flowing through parts of its territory. Wukari LGA is also very heavily forested with the average wind speed in the area put at an estimated 11 km/h.

ECONOMY OF WUKARI

Wukari LGA has a viable agricultural sector with the area known for the cultivation of a variety of crops such as yams and rice. The LGA also has a boisterous trade sector with the area hosting a number of markets which include the popular Wukari yam market. Other important economic activities of the people of Wukari LGA include wood carving, lumbering, hunting, and food processing.
