About Sardauna Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Sardauna local government area is situated within Taraba state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Gembu and the LGA comprises of several towns and villages such as Naguroje, Magu, Kakara, Dorofi, Yelwa, Gembu, Yerimaru, Njeke, and Mbaso. The estimated population of Sardauna LGA is put at 184,731 inhabitants with the area populated by members of diverse ethnic groups such as the Chamba, Mambilla, kaka, Ndola, and the Hausa-Fulani. The Chamba language is one of the spoken languages in Sardauna LGA while the religions of Islam and Christianity are commonly practiced in the area. Sardauna LGA is close to the international border with the Republic of Cameroon and hosts a number of festivals such as the kambu festival.


GEOGRAPHY OF SARDAUNA

Sardauna local government area has an elevation of about 1,348 metres above sea level with the average temperature in the area put at 24 degrees centigrade. The LGA lies on top of the Mambilla plateau and its high altitude makes the area prone to very cold weather. Sardauna LGA lies close to the Donga River and has an average wind speed of 12 km/h.


ECONOMY OF SARDAUNA

Trade is an important feature in Sardauna LGA with the area hosting several markets such as the Tella cattle market and the Lit Kurni local market which attracts hundreds of buyers and sellers of different commodities. Farming is also a key economic activity in Sardauna LGA with the area known for the production of a wide variety of food and cash crops.
